McCreekis Company of SC Militia, War of 1812 on file in this office. 131323 November 12/57 William Knight, Pri. 2 Regt. US Art, Capt. R. M. Gills Col, S. H. Dearing En (listed) Aug. 12, di(charged) Jan. 14, War of 1812. William Knight served under Capt. Gills from 27 July 1812 to 24 Feb 1814. Discharged. Warrant No, 16,371, issd. and sent 12 May 1862. In the matter of the application of William Knight of Chambers Co., AL to be enrolled as a pensioner under Act of Feb 14 1871 in which case A. L. Robinson and David Greer are witnesses to testify to the loyalty of said claimant I hereby certify that after careful investigation. I am convinced that they are men of undoubted good character for truth and veracity and that their statements in the affidavit referred are worthy of full faith and credit. A. Burke, P M War of 1812, Declaration of Soldier for Pension Chambers Co., Al,, on 30 June 1871, before John Appleby, Judge of Probate, came William Knight, aged 80 years, resident of Milltown, Chambers Co., AL. He declares he is married, that his wife was Elizabeth Mitchell, to whom he was married in Chester District, SC on 3 Mar 1815, that he served 60 days in the military service; he enlisted in Capt. Gill's Co. 2nd Artillery at Columbia, SC 1812, discharged at Fort Moultrie; he served in the 2nd Artillery and was stationed at Fort Moultrie, Fort Mechanic, Castle, Flukey and Fort Johnson. He went from York District, SC and then went to Chalk Hall barracks near Columbia, SC.
