In the death of Mr. Simeon Higgins, Chambers County lost one of her best citizens. Quiet and unassuming in his disposition, kindly in his feelings, and gentle in his manner, he moved noiselessly through the world; discharging his various duties unostentatiously, effectively, and securing for himself the cordial affection of a large circle of relations and family connections, and the sincere esteem and unfeigned respect of a multitude of friends and acquaintances. As a husband, he was true and faithful, as a father he was eminently tender and sympathizing as a neighbor, he was friendly and accommodating, and "given to hospitality." As a Christian, he was sober and earnest, but unobtrusive; showing his Christianity rather in deeds and deportment than in words; but at the same time to leave no doubt of his sincerity. Mr. Higgins was a devout communicant of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years. His final illness was endured with a patience and resignation, so characteristic of his long and useful life. He leaves to his dear stricken ones the priceless legacy of a memory fragrant with good and an example worthy of the closest imitation. - J. H.
