Lanier, 68, Leader in Textiles West Point, Ga., Sept. 17 (AP) - George H. Lanier, head of a large textile industry, died at his home here today at the age of 68. He was president of the West Point Manufacturing Company and the Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works. The son of Lafayette Lanier, one of the founders of the West Point concern, he assumed command of the plant upon his father's death in 1910 and embarked upon a program of expansion. Later he ws made president of the textile industries of the Chattahoochee Valley and of the Dixie Cotton Mills at Lagrange, Ga. In 1945 he organized the West Point Utilization Company amd acquired a sales outlet through the purchase of Weillington Sears Comany of Boston. Mr. Lanier also belonged to concerns outside the state. He was a member of the board of directors of the Cotton Textile Institute, the Cotton Duck Association, the American Cotton Manufacturers Association, the Alabama Cotton Manufacturers Association, the Cotton Manufacturers Association of Georgia, Southern Bleachery and Dye Works at Taylors, S.C.; Cabin Crafts Inc. at Dalton, Ga., the Wehadkee Yarn Mills at Rock Mills, Ala.; the Continental Gin Company, Birmingham, and Textile Hall, Greenville, S.C. He leaves a wife and five children, including George H. Lanier, Jr. of New York.
