M. Newman, which occurred a few days ago at his home near Penton. May God bless his bereaved family. *********************************************************** April 8, 1914 issue of "The LaFayette Sun": In Memoriam. Charles Monroe Newman, the subject of this sketch, was born Sept. 16th, 1865, and died Feb. 14th, 1914, at his home in Chambers County. He was married to Miss Hewlett Redmon in Dec. 1890. To this happy union were born seven children – four boys and three girls. All survive him, but the oldest child. Mr. Newman died with a lingering disease, and suffering without a murmur, always patient and submissive to his dear Lord. He never united with any church, but was a strong believer. His life was an inspiration of love, and unselfishness and impressed all with whom he came in contact, and left for his dear wife and children sufficient evidence that he had hope of a life eternal in a world above. For when he felt that the end was near he called them to him and spoke comforting words to them. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor a moral upright citizen. During his long illness all that a faithful loving wife and children, physicians and other loved ones could do was done, but death could not be stayed and peacefully he fell into that sweet sleep, which has no awakening. To the bereaved heart-broken ones we extend sympathy and can only point them to the Dear Comforter, who said, "I am the resurrection and the life." His funeral services were conducted by Elder C. W. Welch and his body laid to rest in the quiet cemetery at Rock Springs, there to await the resurrection. A Friend.
