Apr20, 1966 OBIT Thomas E. Ellis Langdale, Ala - Thomas E. Ellis, 80, a former Chambers County Commissioner, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Batson Memorial Hospital in LaFayette, after a brief illness. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Langdale First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Howard Marks officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery. A native of Lamar County, Ala, Mr. Ellis was a son of the late John and Molly Ellis, and had lived in Chambers County for some 49 years. Mr. Ellis served as a commissioner in the 1920's, and also taught in the Chambers County School System for some 20 years. He was a retired employee of Johnson and Co. in Langdale. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Addie Homan Ellis, Langdale; three daughters, Mrs. R.A. Hanson, Tuscaloosa, Mrs. Albert Rice, San Angelo, Tex., and Mrs. Jack McGee, Harlingen, Tex; four sons, Thomas, E. Ellis Jr., Mobile, Oliver Ellis, Fairfax, Don Ellis, U.S, Air Force, Philippine Islands, and Robert Ellis, Milton, Fla. four brothers, Bill alnd Marvin Ellis, both of Tuscaloosa, Lemuel Ellis, Brownsville, and Homer Ellis, Columbus, Miss.; 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Additional Comments: Thomas Edward Ellis was born 31 Aug 1885, died Apr 19, 1966. Thomas E. Ellis' obit was published in the pages of the Columbus Ledger, Columbus Ga. Apr20, 1966 with the notation "Entered into Eternal Rest Tuesday, April 19, 1966. He was the principal of the school in Abanda, Al. His wife taught school in Abanda and when they moved to Langdale, she worked in the Langdale postoffice - she worked 20 yrs, she retired when she was 70 yrs old. The first names of the daughters are Mary Frances (Ellis) Hanson, Dorothy Virginia (Ellis) Rice, and Adeline (Ellis) McGee. I copied the obit exactly, and some of the children are in different towns as of 2004. They were all born in Abanda as far as I know.
