Clifford Smith, 80, of Lanett died Saturday, March 1, 1995, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point with the Rev. Howard Merchant officiating. Burial followed in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Helen Blackmon Smith of Lanett; his daughter, Betty Beard of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; his son, Robert E. (Bobby) Smith of McMechen, W.Va.; his sister, Mildred S. Bartlett of Valley; three brothers, Robert E. Smith Jr. of Lanett, Niles Dudley Smith and W. Hunter Smith, both of Valley; and four grandchildren, Jenny and Luke Keller and Harley and Rosie Beard of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Born Feb. 9, 1915, in West Point, Mr. Smith was an active member and deacon of Lanett First Christian Church. He was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Fairfax Mill with 20 years of service. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as secretary of the Christian Men's Fellowship. Memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice in Valley or Lanett First Christian Church in memory of Mr. Smith.
