"The LaFayette Sun" - July 22, 1914:
In memory of Mrs. Martha J. Redmon.
Just at the dawn of the morning of July 18th, 1914, the death angel came 
silently into our midst and took from us our mother, companion and friend. 
She began this life Sept. 17th, 1852. In 1875 she was happily married to Mr. 
West Redmon. They were blest with nine children, two having gone on before 
her. Those that survive her are Messrs. Edgar Ellis and Pervin, Misses Carra 
and Elmira, Mrs. C. E. Stillwell and Mrs. Tim McKinney.
On Sunday morning at 10:00 o’clock a large concourse of her friends gathered 
at the Methodist Church to pay their last tribute of love to her, which her 
body was laid to rest in the Grady Cemetery to await the Resurrection 
morning.
Although her death had been expected for many days yet she craved to live 
longer. We love her because she loved God. She was a member of the Methodist 
Episcopal Church South. She attended regularly until that fatal disease 
seized her physical body. The influence of her sweet life will never pass 
from us. As a wife she was kind and affectionate, as a mother, one of the 
best, as a neighbor, the days were never too dark and cold for her to go to 
her fellow friend in time of need and distress. Her sufferings upon this 
earth were nothing compared to the Glory in Heaven.
My heart bled and bleeds for this dear home. But I believe our Heavenly 
Father, who doeth all things well, will keep father, brothers and children 
under his watch care.
Weep not dear children, mother’s resting quiet and peaceful now. Her form 
sleeps beneath mother earth. Her spirit dwells in the mansion not made with 
hands. Hope! Hope on, and you shall meet her on that happy golden shore, 
where the breezes never cease to roam. Look! Yes! look forward for the time 
that you shall meet mother, brother and sister hand in hand.

Five Points - Mrs. J. W. Redmon, who has been sick for several months, died 
Saturday morning and was buried Sunday. This bereaved family has the 
sympathy of everyone.

Obituary.

The subject of this sketch, Mrs. Mattie J. Redmon, wife of John W. Redmon, 
was born in 1852. She was married to John W. Redmon, Nov. 10th, 1875, who 
with seven children, three boys and four girls, live to mourn their loss.
Early in life she professed religion, and joined the Methodist church, 
South, in which communion, she remained a faithful and consistent member 
until she joined the church triumphant in the glory world.
She feel asleep July 18th, 1914, at the dawn of day, after a long and 
painful period of great suffering, which she bore with Christian patience 
and almost unparalleled fortitude.
Sister Redmon was a fine character. She impressed all who met her that she 
was no ordinary character. She possessed the qualities of mind and heart 
that drew all toward her. 
She was a faithful and sympathetic wife, a devoted and loving mother. She 
filled so well her place in the home as wife and mother that her absence 
creates a vacuum in the home and in the hearts of her husband and children 
that never can be filled. Her life was beautiful, because it was unselfish, 
unassuming, patient, kind and helpful. She loved her family, her church, her 
pastor, but most of all she loved her Savior.
She was never happier than when her pastor came or when she was at church. 
She will be missed in every relation of life, in heaven we will find her. 
She left the testimony, which is undeniable and in every way satisfying and 
convincing. Her husband and children can look up and claim an interest in 
the glory world, and when the toils and cares of life are done at heaven’s 
gate, she will meet them and welcome them home. May the entire family meet 
her in heaven is the prayer of one who appreciated and loved her because of 
her real worth. Her former pastor.
