Slay Died Here Last Night. Mrs. Mary Rena Slay, aged 68, wife of J. W. Slay, of this city, died last night at 9:00 o'clock at her home on Magnolia Street after an illness of several days. Her condition was known to be serious and during the past few days' ,only little hope by members of the immediate family were entertained for her recovery. The deceased was born and reared in Beat Two and had lived within the confines of Chambers county all her life. She was a member of the Mount Hickory Primitive Baptist Church and was true to the teachings and tenets of her faith. For nine years she had made her home in LaFayette, moving to this city from her home in the northern part of the county. She was the daughter of the late S. T. Higgins and Mrs. Henrietta Whatley Higgins. She was one of nine children, only two of whom survive. According to announcement of funeral arrangements today Mrs. Slay will be buried from the Mount Hickory Church tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock with Rev. Reese Prather officiating and interment in the Mount Hickory Cemetery. Surviving the deceased, besides her husband, J. W. Slay, of this city, are six sons: C. W. and Semmie Slay, of Roanoke; B. J. Slay, of this city; B. W., Sterling and Kyle Slay, of Birmingham; one brother, J. F. Higgins, of this city; one sister, Mrs. V. D. Mitchell, of Opelika, and twenty-one grandchildren. The six sons of the deceased will serve as pallbearers.
