DeLoach - The shadow of gloom was cast over our community by the death of Mrs. 
J. D. Smith, which occurred at her home near here Saturday evening. Mrs. Smith 
had many friends in this community to mourn her departure. To the bereaved, and 
more especially the husband, Mr. J. D. Smith, who only a few days since 
followed to the grave the remains of his daughter, Mrs. P. B. Pearson, we 
extend our sincerest sympathy.

Another Sad Death
	In last week’s issue of this paper was an account of the sad death of 
Mrs. Luke Pearson, and now we come to report the death of her mother, Mrs. Anna 
Smith, the wife of Mr. John Smith, of near the State Line of Georgia and 
Alabama. Sister Smith is the oldest daughter of Brother and Sister G. F. 
Whatley. She died Saturday night at her home. Her death was caused from 
pneumonia.
	She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for many years and was 
a member of Sharon Church at the time of her death. She leaves her father and 
mother, three sisters and three brothers, a dear husband, one daughter, one 
granddaughter, the daughter of Mrs. Luke Pearson, together with many relatives 
and friends in a state of deep mourning. She will be buried today in the 
Higgins Cemetery at 12 p.m. funeral conducted by the writer.

(Per “Survey of Cemeteries in Chambers County, Alabama” there is a tombstone in 
the Higgins Family Cemetery that 
reads: “Annie M. Smith, wife of J. D. Smith, May 10, 1860 – Mar. 7, 1908”
