Chambers Co. AL Obituary of Isaac Stephens Don Clark Source: "The Gospel Messenger", Volume 17, No. 9, September, 1895. ISAAC STEPHENS was born October 13, 1818, married SARAH A. PRUETT October 11, 1838. He joined Mount Pisgah Church, Chambers County, and was baptized by Elder JAMES MAYFIELD. Ordained deacon October, 1855, and died July 7, 1895. As a husband devoted, as a father kind and indulgent yet firm in his family government. As a citizen and neighbor none surpassed him; as a Primitive Baptist, unflinching, uncompromising-as a deacon, filling the office well. Adhering strictly to the doctrine of Salvation by Grace, and the Scriptures as the only "Rule of Faith and Practice". The disease that terminated his earthly career was dropsy of the heart. A pillar of Mount Pisgah Church has been remeoved... Thus one by one the old veterans are being carried over the icy river of death to receive their reward. Written by Elder W. R. AVERY, Stroud, Alabama Note: Tombstone inscription at Mount Pisgah Cemetery- ISAAC STEPHENS, October 13, 1818 - July 7, 1893 "Be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh" Confederate Marker also placed at grave: Corporal Co.
