B. White Jesse Benjamin White was born June 22nd, 1833, in Henry County, Georgia, and died at Moorefield, Ala., Sept. 16, 1907. He was buried at Antioch Church on Sept. 18th, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. W. C. Bledsoe, D.D., who had been his pastor for many years. Brother White had been a member of the Baptist Church for fifty years and had attended fifty-three meetings of his Association. Besides the widow, Mrs. Martha White, who was Miss Martha Belk, to whom he was married on August 7, 1855, he leaves the following children: Mr. Z. A. White, Sycamore, Ala., Mrs. J. W. Clark, Antioch, Ala., Mrs. W. W. Yates, LaFayette, Ala., Mrs. J. D. Mathews, Cusseta, Ala., Mrs. J. S. Clark, Antioch, Ala., Mrs. B. N. Yates, Moorefield, Ala., Mr. J. J. White, Opelika, Ala., Mr. J. H. White, Moorefield, Ala., Mrs. T. N. Cotter, Antioch, Ala. Mr. White had forty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He had five sisters and four brothers, of whom only two are living, Mrs. Nancy Hunter, Opelika, Ala., and Mrs. Jane Blassengame, Opelika, Ala. Mr. White lived and died a consistent Christian and for many years had been a man in whom all who knew him had confidence in his Christian profession. He was loyal to his church and loved her doctrines and ordinances. He was a man of great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his testimony was never of an uncertain sound. He leaves to his numerous descendants the rich heritage of a good name and a Godly life. It is a significant fact that almost every one of his descendants who have reached the years of accountability have professed in Christ and are members of the church. It was to him a source of great comfort that they were following in the way that would at length lead to a blessed and eternal reunion of the large family in the heavenly home. Brother White will be sadly missed in the home, the church and the community. An old patriarch, he had learned much of true wisdom, and was a safe counselor pertaining to those things that touched upon the Kingdom of his Master. The writer of these lines loved him and will miss him in his accustomed place in the house of God. May the Great Comforter dwell richly with the bereaved. W. C. B. (Most probably this was Rev. W. C. Bledsoe) Additional Comments: File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/chambers/obits/w/white1479gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/alfiles/ File size: 2.9 Kb
