Mr. J. D. Yates Aged Lanett Citizen Died Sunday Mr. J. D. Yates, aged 84 years, died at 8 PM Sunday after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Yates had lived in Lanett for about thirty-five years, and was living with his daughter, Mrs. Sam Scanella, at the time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and had been in earlier life very active in religious work. He was a good man, quiet, courteous, unassuming and always friendly. He had been in very good health until about two weeks ago, when he was forced to take his bed. Just before his death he told friends that he could see a wonderful place in the distance, and was ready and anxious to go. Mr. Yates is survived by seven sons, Joe and Jessie Yates, of Lanett, Mack Yates of LaGrange; Will Yates of Roanoke; Ed Yates of Columbus Ga; Albert Yates of Atlanta; and Jim Yates of Opelike and his daughter, Mrs. Scanella of Lanett. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas L. Ellis at the First Methodist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon, and interment was in the Lanett Cemetery.
