Allen House LaFayette, Alabama Photo ca. 1890 Richard Wesley Allen (1821 - 1898), son of Thomas and Mary Cole Allen of Oak Bowery, was a prominent merchant in the early days of LaFayette. In 1860, he married Elizabeth H. Wheat (1824 - 1888), daughter of Moses and Artemesia Jemison Wheat. R. W. Allen served in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States as 1st. Lt. in Company "F" 61st AL Inf. Reg. His LaFayette residence was located on the south side of Magnolia Street (now called Avenue A) on the elevation adjacent to LaFayette Cemetery.
