Stephens wend@bellsouth.net May 4, 2004, 11:10 am The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., September 7, 1954, Front page Mr. Willy Ovie Smith, age 50, of Route 2 Cedartown, passed away Sunday afternoon after an extended illness. Born August 14, 1904 in Cherokee County, Alabama, Mr. Smith was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Oak Grove Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. today with the Rev. Jess McCain, Rev. Johnny Boatner, and Rev. J. H. Mull officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Survivors include Mr. Smith’s wife, the former Miss Dovie Highfield, one daughter, Shirley Mae Alice Smith, three sons, Elbert and Willy Gray Smith, both of Cedartown and Arthur Smith, of Iowa, two half sisters, Mrs. Lewis Drummond and Mrs. Lindsey Rosser, two half brothers, Steve Highfield, of Detroit Michigan, and Lewis Highfield, of Cedartown, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Oscar Welchel, Bates Purcell, Lewis Drummond, Lindsey Rosser, Hulsey Ashley, and Mallory Greenwood. The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
