This file was contributed and copyrighted by: Edna Sterphens ================================================================================= September 1999 Hoyt Leon Smith, of Tecumseh, Alabama passed away Saturday afternoon in a local hospital following an accident suffered in swimming about 10 days ago. Mr. Smith, born October 6, 1934 in Cherokee County, Alabama, had lived most of his life in the Tecumseh community. Before his accident he was employed by Arrington Mining Company. Surviving are: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Smith; one sister, Miss Ellie Smith; two brothers, Jimmy and J. W. Smith; maternal grandfather, Charles P. Arrington, Palestine, Alabama; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Willie Smith, Tecumseh. Several aunts and uncles also survive. Funeral services were held at three P.M. (Georgia time) today at Salem Baptist Church, Bluffton, Alabama with Rev. Clinton Garmon officiating. Interment followed in the Salem cemetery. Pallbearers were: Charles Howard, Howard Gibson, Hershel Langston, Richard Roberts, Bobby Griffin and William Beck. The Olin Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
