This file was contributed and copyrighted by: Curt Cole ==================================================================== March 2005 Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery This tombstone transcription project, completed March 1, 2005, was begun by Stella Roper, and completed by Curt, Irene & Dot Cole. In addition to the marked graves, there are many whos's locations have been lost. Though this is a well-kept cemetery, numerous wooden markers have disappeared even over the last 25 years, and a few lie scattered about the ground. A few unmarked grave locations are obvious due to depressions or grass coloration, but most are not. No unmarked graves were recorded for this project. The oldest portion of the cemetery is in the south end, at the crest of the hill. This is where the unmarked graves lie. The rows align generally north to south. The list begins in the norhtwest corner (the near right as you approach from the road.) Two short rows in the south portion don't line up with other rows. These are designated 6A & 9A. All other rows begin from the north. DM means Double Marker. Unknown indicates no information is on the marker. 388 marked graves are recorded herein. The oldest discernable death date is Feb 10, 1869, found on the stone of Effie Robinson, grave 6-28. There are at least two other graves from 1869. So the church and/or community probably began about that time. The cemetery lies in Chilton County, Alabama. To reach the cemetery from Montgomery, take I-65 north, exit at #212, Clanton/Lay Dam, head NE on AL Hwy 145 about 3.5 miles to County road 51. Turn left and head northwest about 2 miles to the church. The cemetery is on the south side of the road, opposite the church. From Birmingham, take I-65 south, take the Jemison exit, # 219, head east on county road 42 about a half mile to county road 51. Turn right and travel southeast about 3.5 miles to the church. GPS coordinates are: 32 deg 56 min 49 sec North latitude, 86 deg 38 min 33 sec West longitude. Considerable effort was made to accurately record the information at each grave, but many are eroded and difficult to read, some impossible. Many had to be read at dusk by shining a flashlight on the stones at a shallow angle. So a few errors are possible. Any errors or additions should be brought to the attention of Curt Cole via E-mail: curt at speedfactory dot net.
