Items in parentheses were added by surveyor. This is a small family cemetery located off of County Rd. 54 in Chilton Co., AL. It is on property which was once the homestead of Ezekiel and Mary Jane " Polly " Johnson Eddings. Polly was the granddaughter of Dr. Joshua West, one of the pioneer settlers of the Montevallo area of Shelby Co. The cemetery property is currently owned by G. D. Nichols. It is very difficult to find and in very poor repair. A large tree has fallen on the cemetery and covers some of the graves. The entire cemetery is covered with saplings and undergrowth. The oldest grave able to be seen is from 1858. This is a partial listing of graves found there. Directions: From Montevallo take Hwy 18 toward Calera. Turn right on 155. Turn right on Shelby 18 which becomes Chilton 54. Go 1 1/2 miles to G. D. Nichols home on right. ( Name is on mailbox ) He will have to take or direct you to the cemetery as it is off the main read and difficult to find. Eddings, Ezekiel: Born February 11, 1806. Died October 18, 1875. ( Son of James Isaac Eddings of Wilson Co., TN. ) Eddings, Mary: " Wife of Ezekiel ". Born April 22, 1816. Died January 13, 1891 ( This tombstone is broken ). ( Mary Jane Johnson Eddings, daughter of Mary Ann West and Moses Johnson, Jr., both buried in Montevallo City Cemetery. ) Eddings, Ella L., wife of J. ( appears to be F. ) Eddings: Born October 15, 1863. Died May 18, 1898 ( The fallen tree has knocked this stone somewhat sideways.) ( Ella Smith Eddings the wife of Isaac Jefferson Eddings, know as " Jeff " Eddings ) Eddings, William T.: Born ( unable to read month ) ? 18, 1851. Died July 15, 1879. ( Son of Ezekiel Eddings and Mary Jane Johnson Eddings. He was married to Mary Rice. ) Eddings, Sarah A.: Born November 30, 1843. Died July 13, 1884. ( Daughter of Ezekiel Eddings and Mary Jane Johnson Eddings. ) Eddings, Johnnie: "Son of N. and M. J. Eddings ". Born January 7, 1858. Died October 18, 1858. ( Infant son of Newton Eddings and Mary Jane Harper Eddings, both of whom are buried at Moore's Crossroads Cem. ) The next three graves are inside an old iron fence. Oldham, George: unable to read inscription Oldham, P. R: Born November 23, 1870. Died November 17, 1900. ( Pleasant R. Oldham, son of John S. Oldham and Susan M. West. ) Oldham, Susie Ester: " Daughter of P. R. and Ida Oldham " Born October 27, 1892. Died November 1892. ( Infant daughter of Pleasant R. Oldham and Ida Oldham. ) West "Infant of F. P. and I. A. West " Born December 16, 1896. Died December 16, 1896. ( Son of Franklin P. and Ida West. ) West, Charles B. Born April 9, 1834. Died January 23, 1900. (This stone is broken. ) ( Son of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown. He served in Co C of the 25th Alabama,Confederate Army. He was wounded at Murfreesboro, and captured at Nashville. He was the husband of Minerva Moore. ) West, E. A., REV.: ( Unable to read date of birth. ) Died May 11, 1907. ( Elbert A. West, Methodist Minister. He was the son of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown West. ) West, Frank P.: Born December 2, 1848. Died December 12, 1874? ( Very difficult to read date of death ). ( Franklin P. West, son of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown West. ) West, Ida Lee: " My devoted wife " Died March 23 1898 aged 29 years. " God be with you 'till we meet again." West, Mary Ann: "Wife of Jefferson West born in Columbia S. C. September 15, 1811" Died November 30 1895. ( Mary Ann Brown, wife of Jefferson West ) West, Pleasant H.: Born 10-9-1838. Died January 13 1874. ( Son of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown West, and the husband of Caroline Randall. He served in Co C of the 25th Alabama, Confederate Army. He was wounded at Murfreesboro on the same day as his brother, Charles. West, Jefferson: " Born E. Tenn. January 24, 180 ( Difficult to read, but appears to be a 2 ). Died March 22, 1868. " On the Holy Sabbath morning just before the dawning. His spirit left its tenement of clay to enter the Sabbath of eternal rest. " ( Son of Rev. Dr. Joshua West and Hannah Prentice West, husband of Mary Ann Brown West, uncle of Mary Jane Johnson Eddings ) West, John A.: Born July 7 1828. Died January 29, 1897. " The will of God is accomplished." ( Son of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown West, and the husband of Eliza M. Horton. ) West, Susan M. : " wife of J. S. Oldham " Born January 4, 18?? (Looks like 44), Died July 9 187? ( Daughter of Jefferson West and Mary Ann Brown West, and the wife of John Oldham. This grave is in an old iron fence. ) Known To Be Buried Here as reported by family members: Eddings, Issac Jefferson: Born July 14, 1853. Died Aft. 1910. (This is per his grandson James O. Eddings. Jeff was the youngest son of Ezekiel Eddings and Mary Ann Johnson, and the husband of Ella Smith Eddings. His grave is probably next to Ella's, but this area is now covered by the fallen tree. ) Others possibly buried here: West, Jefferson G: Born April 6, 1841. Died January 3, 1862.
