Hannon - Chilton Co., AL The Chilton View 9-06-1883 "Capt. J. H. Hannon died suddenly Sun. morning. He was born in Bibb Co., GA 1831,(1) age about 52, was Clanton Post Master, was Capt. of Cavalry Co. in 53rd Ala., moved to Clanton 1872." (1) A more reliable record has his birth place as Baldwin Co., GA and date as 20 Jul 1830. Note: John H. Hannon (b. 20 Jul 1830 in Baldwin Co., GA & d. 2 Sep 1883 in Clanton, Chilton Co., AL) married Frances Angelina Phillips (b. 23 Nov 1832 in Talbotton, Talbot Co., GA & d. 2 Oct 1916 in Clanton, Chilton Co., AL) on 14 May 1850. He is buried in Clanton City Cemetery, Clanton, Chilton Co., AL. He was appointed Capt. of Co. A on 7/28/62. Roll of 2/65 states, "Acting Lt. Colonel since 5/20/64 by order of Col. M. W. Hannon." Commanded 53rd Alabama after wounding of Lt. Col. J. F. Gaines 12/4/64. Commanded Hannon's Brigade after wounding of Col. M. W. Hannon 3/10/65. Listed in 1870 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., AL as living at Ramer, and listed as teacher, age 40, b. AL. Wife listed as F. H., age 37, and daughters as N. B., age 18; Fannie, age 15; and son as C. R., age 12. Moved to Clanton, Chilton Co., AL in 1871, and served as Postmaster.
