Ellis Clarke County Democrat June 19, 1862 This is an excerpt from the Clarke County Democrat June 19, 1862: "We regret to state that Rev. E. Ellis, an aged and highly respected Methodist minister who lived near this place, was killed by the falling of a pine tree during the heavy wind and rain of last Monday afternoon. He was in his field hoeing at the time, and when his wife got to him she found his head mashed by one of the limbs of the tree. He leaves numerous relatives and friends to lament his loss, whilst his well spent life assures us that his spirit is with God."
