History of Mt. Moriah Methodist Church
Bluff Springs, Clay County Alabama

The Mt. Moriah Methodist church dates back to before the Civil War. The church 
was accepted in the Alabama Conference in 1867. 
The land for the church was donated by Mrs. Rachel Sims. When the first building 
was replaced in the 1890's, Mr. Merritt Street donated the stained-glass windows 
for the building. 

Through the years the church had many rivals, singings, Box Suppers and plays. 
The church was home to the 4-H Goldenrods Club meetings.

William D. Brown was the church superintendent for 25 years in the early years. 

A few of the members of the church are buried at Mt. Ararat Cemetery Clay 
County about a mile away from Mt. Moriah, plus a few members are buried at 
Sardis Methodist church a few miles away from Mt. Moriah.
The church itself has a small cemetery with about 10 unmarked graves marked with
fieldstones.
