Knight The Hillabee Musical Convention convened its 13th Annual session at Bethany Church, Clay County, Alabama, September 12th, 1890. The house was called to order by Bro. C. Allen, President in the chair. Prayer by Rev. Blankenship. The Introductory lesson was led by Bro. J. T. Mountain, time unlimited, intermission one hour for refreshments. One o'clock p.m. The house was called to order by the chair, music by Bro. B. T. Bishop, Time unlimited, alter said lesson, the Convention convened in a business session. 1st. Called for the reading of the minuets of last session which was read and approved. 2nd. Proceeded to elect officers for the ensuing year, which resulted in the election of Brothers, Charles B. Allen, President J. T. Mountain, vice President and Secty and M.H. Welch, assistant Secretary. 3rd. On motion, the chair appointed an arranging Committee, as follows: Bros. W. B. Kenady, S. M. Waldrop, L. Alford, W.T. Grimes and J. M. Blankenship. 4th. Called for correspondents from sister Conventions and receive from Chambers County Convention Bro. J. H. Williams, from Coosa County, It. R.H. Truett, from Boiling Springs, Bros. W. B. Lee, O. M. McCain, E. J. Calloway, M. A. Morrison, J. E. Lee and S. M. McCain, on motion adjourned. 1st. Lesson in music arranged by committee was conducted by Bros. C. Allen and C. C. Kenedy each 20 min. each. 2nd. Lesson by Bros. J. J. Bishop, G. W. Carter and W. J. Tucker, 20 mins each. Convention adjourned with Benediction by Bro J. T, Mountain, until 8 a.m. Saturday. Saturday Sept 8th Convention met pursuant to adjournment, with J. T. Mountain in the chair. Prayer was conducted J.J. Bishop. music by M.H. Welch, B. T. Bishop and C R Morris, 20 minutes each. Music by W. H. Lee, O. M. McCain and W. B. Kennedy, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Music by E. J. Calloway, A. J. Kent, and J. E. McGlaughn, twenty minutes each. Intermission one hour for refreshments. One o'clock, p.m. Business lesson unlimited. Called for correspondents from sister conventions received from the State Line convention, A J Kent, from Boiling Springs convention, J. W. Hamlin, T. J. Lee, T. J. Harris, W. L. Ray, T. B. Summerlin and Miss M.C. Summerlin. Called for report from Union Singings, Societies and Schools and received from Mt. Olive, Union Singing a report by Bro. W. B. Kenedy, attending that the next session at that body will convene with County Line church Clay County, Ala., on first Sunday and Saturday before, in May. 1891. Received a report from County Line, Union Singing, time of session not stated. Received letters from Societies at Bethany, Mellow Valley and Flint Hill. Also, from a school at McGuire's Chapel, taught by C. Allen. Called for report of committee on the state of music. The report was favorable Committee continued by consent, consisting of W B. Kennedy, B T Bishop, Wit Smith, C.C. Kennedy. Called for report of committee on deceased members. The committee reported the death of P. W. Yates and sister M. E. Richardson. Committee continued by consent, consisting of J T. Mountain, B. T. Bishop and R. N. Stephens, on motion, a committee to prepare a memorial, resulted in the appointment of F. J. McCain, J. T. Mountain and C. C. Kennedy. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS. On motion the chair appointed a committee of five, to confer with B.F. and J L White, Georgia, requesting the revision and enlargement of the Old Sacred Harp, with new appendix, which resulted in the appointment of J. T. Mountain, Chairman F. Q. McCain, M.H. Welch, W.B. Kenedy and B. T. Bishop. Appointed correspondents to sister conventions us follows: To State Line, W. B. Kenedy to Chamber: J. E. McClaughn, J. J Bishop, W. C. McGaron, G. W. Carter and G. W. Williamson: To Boiling Springs, F. G. McCain, W. B. Kenedy. B.T. Bishop, C Allen, L J Williamson. A. C. Yeargan. G. M. Creed and F. Williamson. Called for petitions for a house for home for the convention and received three; one from Bethel church, Clay County, one from Ephesus church, Tallapoosa County and one from church. Darien church receiving the majority vote. The convention convenes with said church on the 2nd Sunday, Friday and Saturday before, in September 1890. The following resolution was offered by C. C. Kennedy, and adopted by the convention: Resolved That hereafter, no place shall be entitled to a session of this body, without a majority vote of the entire body present, and voting. Business lesson.
