Convention called to order by the President. After singing and prayer by Bro. S. M. McKay; the introductory lesson in music was led by W B. Lee. Recess 10 minutes. Convention met in business session. On motion went into the election of officers for the ensuing year, and bro S. M. McCullough was elected President, and H. T. McKay Vice President, and W. S. Spurling Secretary. On motion appointed an arranging committee, viz: W. M. McKay, B. T. McCain, J. R. McKinney, W. B. Lee and W. S. Spurling. Minutes of the last convention read and adopted. Adjourned one hour for refreshments. Convention called to order by the President. Music by J. M. Collier, T. C. Watts and W.M. Procter, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Convention called to order. Music by B. T. McCain, H. T. McKay and J. J. Minter, 20 minutes each. Adjourned until Friday 8 o'clock a. m. Friday August 19. Convention met according to adjournment Singing and prayer by Bro. H.T. McKay, Music by W.S. Spurling, W. M. McKay and G.F. Hurst, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Convention called to order. Music by J. F. Hicks, W. W. Birchfield, and M. Morrison, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Music by J. T. Thompson, J. R. McKinney, and J. H. Lee 20 minutes each. Adjourned one hour for refreshments. Convention met in business session. Called for correspondence from sister convention, and received from the Hillabee Convention, F. G. McCain, M. C. Yates, M. Holdridge, Miss J. V. Yates, G. M. Green, N. V. Yates, T. J. Yates, C. C. Kennedy, W. B. Kennedy and C. S. Kennedy as delegates. Call ed for delegates from schools taught and received from Delta school taught by S. M. McCullough, and received A. J. Preston, John F, Preston and T. J. McClintock as delegates. School at Mt. Pleasant, taught by J. B. Johns, and received as delegates James Holloway, S. E. Mitchell, J. L. Cummings, J. M. Nix, and W. D. Overton. School at Union Hill, taught by J. B. Johns, and received as delegates H. Hill, Richard Lipham, John Pool, and Robert Holloway. School at Wesley Chapel, taught by J. B. Johns, received as delegates T. P. Rice, J M. Collier, Henry Collier and Miss Nancy C. Collier. School at Pleasant Hill taught by W. B. Kennedy, received as delegates, A. Driggers, John Driggers, Miss Mary Ingram and Miss Josey McKay. From Shady Grove school received C. B. Mullins and W. A. Hubbard. From Mt. Zion, received J. J. Minter, F. G. McCain, R. D. Ray and G. M. Green. From Concord and Rockey Grove, E. J. Calloway and Dock Lee. On motion the, reading of the constitution was postponed until Saturday. Motion by J. S. McCain that the singers abstain from the use of tobacco while in the house; motion carried. Query offered by J. J. Minter. How is music written? Answered by J.H. Watts, by calculation. Recess 10 minutes. Convention called to order. Music by J. B. Johns, Robt Hamlin and J.M. Green, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Convention called to order. Music by S. Y. Arnold 20 minutes. Adjourned until Saturday 8 a. m. SATURDAY AUGUST 20th. Convention met according to adjournment. Singing and prayer by Bro H. T. McKay. music by J. F. Preston, Wm Proctor and J. S. McCain, 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Music by M.C. Yates, John Carter and J. R Calloway 20 minutes each. after recess music by T. J. Harris, F. G. McCain and W. B. Kennedy 20 minutes each, adjourned one hour for refreshments. Convention called to. order; music by C. C. Kennedy Mies Lula Yates and C. R. Mullens 20. minutes each. After recess, the convention met in business session Renewed the call for delegates from sister conventions, schools and societies, and received from Douglasville (Ga.) Convention Pro C R Mullens. Appointed J.S. McCain, W. Ingram and J. J. Minter as a committee to draft resolutions. Call for petitions for the next session of this convention, and received from Ashland a petition with forty-one names, also one from Christiana church, Randolph County, a petition with twenty-six names. Left to a rising vote, and the next session of this body was granted Christiana church, commencing on Thursday before the third Sabbath in August 1888. Called for correspondents to go to sister conventions, J. J. Minter, J. S. McCain, J. W. Moon, J. R. McKinney, J. H. Watts, H T McKay, J. F. Hurst, Robt Hamlin and T J Harris agreed to go to Hillabee Convention. J, S McCain, M C McCain, and J. J. Minter agreed to go to the Chattahoochee (Ga.) convention. S. M. McCullough, B T McCain agreed to go to Douglasville (Ga.) convention. Music by E. J. Calloway and S. M. McKay 20 minutes each, adjourned until Sunday 8 o'clock a m. SUNDAY AUGUST 21st. Convention met according to adjournment. Singing and prayer by Bro W. B. Kennedy. Music by W.M. McKay, J. R. McKinney and F. G. McCain 20 minutes each. Recess 10 minutes. Music lesson in memory of bro Greenberry Jenkins and Sister Elder the wife of J. W. Elder, by J. S. McCain, E. J. Callaway and J. J. Minter 20 minutes each. After which J. W. Elder made a few remarks in the way of admonition to the convention, and he then chose three pieces of music, which was his favorites, and called on bro F.M. McCain to sing them. Adjourned one hour for refreshments. BUSINESS SISSON Call for the report of the committee on resolutions. Res. 1st That this convention tender their thanks to the members of Providence church for the use of their house during our stay with them 2nd. That this convention tender their thanks to the citizens this vicinity for their liberality and kindness shown to us during our stay with them. Res. 3rd. That this conversion tender their thanks to the officers for their kindness and faithfulness, while presiding over us during our session. On motion by S.M. McKay. The Clay County Watchman be requested to publish the proceedings of this convention. On motion, Wm. Ingram, J. J. Minter and W. B. Lee was appointed as a committee to revise the list of names belonging to this convention. and report at the next session. Bro. J. T. Thompson was appointed to lead the introductory lesson at the next annual session of this body. Business session adjourned. Music by J.H. Lee, J. R. Calloway and S.M. McKay 20 minutes each.
