Bluff Springs, Clay County, Alabama. Mt Ararat was established in 1841 from the records of the Coosa River Baptist Assocation which Mt Ararat was a member. In 1855 Mt. Ararat ask to be dismissed from the Coosa River Baptist Assocation. On Oct. 26, 1855, Carey Baptist Association was organized at Mt Ararat Baptist Church. It has been said the church was destroyed in a storm, while others say by a fire and the church disbanded. It has also been said the church was across the road from the cemetery. The writer cannot prove or disprove this. The church closed after 1875. The families kept using the cemetery, and the cemetery is still in use. Into the 1940's there were still cemetery cleanings organized by the family members. In 1837 Eli M. Driver & Joseph Bradford patented over 320 acres in this TS, Sect, and Range. Eli M. Driver patented 1000's of acres in Alabama for resale it is doubtful he had any connection to the church, but this does not mean he did not sell land to the man who turned around and donated the land for the church and cemetery. In 1839 Jesse Foreman patented land in the Township, Section and Range plus in the surrounding area. There is a J.W. Foreman, J. Foreman and James Foreman listed as a delegate for Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in the Coosa River Baptist Association minutes in the 1850's. Letter to the South Western Baptist Newspaper: Aug. 4th, 1854. Dear Brethren, I had the pleasure of attending a very interesting, protracted meeting held last week at Mount Ararat Church, where we enjoyed "A refreshing season from the Lord" There were added to the Church nine by baptism and three by letter and we left fifteen or twenty anxiously inquiring the way to Zion....
