New Hope African American Baptist Church was organized in 1915. The oldest marked grave is that of Lucy Denney who died in 1921. There are many people listed in the death records for Clay County buried in this cemetery in unmarked graves. May-1919 On June 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, the New Hope Colored Baptist Church will celebrate the third anniversary conducted by Rev. M. V. Lindsay, pastor. Oct-1928 The New Hope colored Baptist church of Barfield met Sunday October 14. our pastor J.W. Berry preached a good sermon. We raised $95.00 on the endebtness of the church, and we thank the good white people of Lineville for their gifts as follows. T.S. Winn, $1,00, R.C. Gregg, 50c, L.H. Hudson, 50c George R. Nov-1931 Lineville Headlight Under and by virtue of the power of sale contained in that certain mortgage executed on the 1st day of February 1928 by the Deacons of the New Hope Baptist Church, colored, in favor of the Farmers ana Merchants Bank, which said mortgage is due land unpaid, the mortgagee will sell in front of New Hope Church to the highest and best bidder at public auction on the 23rd. day of November 1931 the following real estate, All of that certain tract or parcel of land located and situated in Township 19, south, Range 9 east, in the County of Clay and the state of Alabama, and more particularly described as follows: Beginning at the NE corner of the SE N 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Sect 16. Thence North 35 degrees west, a distance of 14. feet. Thence South 42 degrees est. a distance of 665 feet, thence S 21 degrees east, a distance of 220 feet, thence S 65 degrees west, distance if 310 feet Thence 58 degrees east, a distance of 361 feet to the northern edge of an old road thence north 58 degrees east, a distance of 1095 feet the north edge of said road, to the west bank of Mad Indian creek, and then north 35 degrees west. 664 feet along the west bank of Mad Indian Creek to point of beginning. Defaulting made in the payment of the indebtedness stcured by said mortgage and said default continuing said sale will be made in accordance with the terms of said mortgage. The Farmers and Merchants Bank Mortgagee. Some how the members of the church found a way to paid off the loan. After many trials and tribulations, the New Hope Baptist Church still stands strong.
