William McCain, James Foreman and Dreadzil E. Pace. William McCain was the pastor until 1844. Dreadzil E. Pace was the pastor until his death in 1852. John Haynes was the first Deacon of the church. He gave 2 1/2 acres of land for the church and cemetery. In 1850 Liberty Baptist Church was a member of the Coosa River Baptist Assocation. In 1856 Liberty Baptist Church had 87 members. Around 1860 Liberty Baptist Church was dismissed by letter from the Coosa River Baptist Assocation to the Carey Baptist Assocation. It is unknown when the first church building was erected. In 1895 the ladies of the church organized at Basket Supper to raise money for the New Church Building. Graveyard/cemetery cleanings is nothing uncommon, but in 1890's D.L. Riley, Joseph E. Upchurch and others organized graveyard cleanings in July & August. The women in the church made lunch for the workers. Everyone in the community was invited, even if they did not have family buried in the cemetery. "Lend a hand, get a free meal" These graveyard cleanings went on for years. Scarbrough W.A. Johnson W.T. Davis J.A. Dunn Early Chruch Clerk: Joseph E. Upchurch for over 25 years. Early Superintendents: Jospeh E. Upchurch Green C. Haynes Surnames of Early members were: Allen Barton Castleberry Collier Cox Davis Foreman Hallman Harvell Haynes Hobbs Johnson Maulden McCain McMath Mitchell Pace Preutt Rainwater Richards Riddle Riley Russell Stevenson Stocks Thomas Upchurch Walker Welborne Whatley Williams Wood Ashland Progress Sep 10, 1942: The Liberty Baptist church celebrated its 100th anniversary Sunday, August 30, and was attended by a large crowd and enjoyed by all. The anniversary service was conducted by Rev. S. C. Ray of Ashland and the 11 o'clock. sermon was delivered by Rev. S. J. Ingram of Talladega. Talks were made by former pastors, visiting preachers and older people who were well acquainted with the history of Liberty church. Also, the history of the church was given including the pastors and clerks and the number of years each had served from the year it was constituted by nine members until the present year of 1942. The afternoon Sunday School program was conducted by Rev. W. R. Ingram of Lineville. May Liberty church carry through another hundred years the same good record it has carried in the past.
