Pyriton, Clay County, Alabama. Concord Baptist Church was organized in 1843 according to the records of the Coosa River Baptist Association. The church was established by Rev. John W. Caldwell and Isaac Feazell among others. The first church meetings were held in a bush arbor, later a one room log church with a fireplace was erected. By 1850 Concord Baptist Church was a member of the Coosa River Baptist Assocation. In 1850 the church had 62 members. Who donated the land for the church and cemetery is unknown. The early Land Patents of the TS, Sect and Range were issued to Henderson R. Johnson [member of the church] Wm T. Davis [A pastor of the church] Jesse Freeman, and George W. Watts. According to legend Rev. John W. Caldwell was the first preacher at the church. He died at a meeting in the church with a heart-attack in 1875, he is buried in another cemetery. In 1858 Concord Baptist Church was dismissed by letter from the Coosa River Baptist Association and admitted to the Carey Baptist Association. In 1858 the church had 49 members. In October 1898 Concord Baptist Church hosted the Carey Baptist Assocation meeting. At that meeting Concord Baptist Church ask to be dismissed from the Carey Baptist Assocation and the request was granted. In 1898 Concord Baptist Church had 87 members.
