James L. Williams Judge of Said Court, Jefferson Morris, respectfully represents that the late Sarah Morris who was an inhabitant of this county at the time of her death departed this life on the __ (left blank) day of 1874 intestate, seized in fee of lands and tenements as petitioner is informed and believes worth about five hundred dollars and not probably more and of same personal property Said death occurred over forty days since that petitioner is an inhabitant of this State and over twenty one years of age and son of said deceased. The the names residences and ages of the heirs and distributees of the estate of said deceased, as your petitioner is advised and believes are as follows Viz: Elisha Morris dead but left heirs whose names are John H. & James Morris - Redbone P.O. Talbot Co. Ga; 2nd Martha Winn wife of John Winn, Columbus GA 3rd Thomas Morris, Leander?, Clay Co. Alabama 4th James Morris residence unknown over twenty one years old. 5th Talbot Morris, male over twenty one years old residence Mellow Valley Clay County Alabama 6th Jefferson Morris over twenty one years old male Leander? P. O. Clay Co. Ala, 7th Washington Morris male over twenty one years old Ashland Clay Co. ALa 8th Elisabeth Morris female single over twenty one years old Mellow Valley Clay Co. Alabama 9th Dorinda Andrews wife of F. M. Andrews dead, but left one heir whose name is Dorinda Devaughan wife of W. R. C. DeVaughan over twenty one years of age Mellow Valley Clay Co. Alabama That no one has applied for letters of administration and it has been over forty days since the death of the deceased Wherefore your petitioner prays your honor that letters of administration thereon? be granted to him according to law upon his giving the required bond and security and as in only bound? & C? Jefferson Morris Sworn to and subscribed before me this November _blank_ 1875 (note: the year 1875 is clearly written on this document though likely in error) James L. Williams Judge of Probate Oder Granting Letters: Estate of Sarah Morris dec'd Nov Term Probate Court This day came Jefferson Morris a resident citizen of Clay County Alabama and over twenty one years of age and filed his petition at this Court asking for letters of administration on the estate of Sarah Morris deceased and the Court being convinced that the said deceased departed this life more than forty days since intestate in this County and the said Jefferson Morris having made bond for the sum of one thousand dollars with Lewis G. Dean and James A. Kilgore as securities, It is therefore ordered by the court that letters of Administration issue to said Jefferson Morris on the estate of Sarah Morris deceased. James L. Williams Judge of Probate Bond of Administration The State of Alabama Clay County Know all men by these presents that we Jefferson Morris, Lewis G. Dean and James A. Kilgore of the county and state aforesaid are held and firmly bound unto James L. Williams Judge of Probate of said county and his successors in Office in the final sum of one thousand dollars for which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our seals and dated this (_blank_) day of 1874 The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Jefferson Morris has been appointed administrator of the estate of Sarah Morris deceased Now of the said Jefferson Morris shall well and truly perform all the duties which are or may be by law required of him as such Administrator then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force.
