In about 1967, Marshall Hobbs, a descendant of E. M. Hobbs gave a copy of the letter to E. Jeannine Hobbs Richards who was gathering Hobbs genealogy at that time. Marshall Hobbs had the original or it is in his branch of the family. We have all been told that Wm. H. "Billy" Hobbs was a gunsmith and made guns for the Confederacy. This letter confirms that Erasmus was waiting on a gun made by Uncle Billy. Eldred Smith told me he had one of Uncle Billy's guns for years until the kids were playing with it and left it outside in the rain and it rusted. It was thrown away.
