Roberts to John Willis Robertson and Lela Bell Roberts Robertson. Letter dated 11-19-1906 Lineville, Alabama. Mr. JW Robertson and Family Dear Bro & Sister I will attempt to answer your letter. This leaves us all well, not so well but able to be up except Marvin. We have thought for 3 weeks or more that each day would be his last. He has been out of his head all the time. We have had 4 Dr's with him. He has had one hemoridge day before yesterday and since then he seems to be some better, he seems to be more at him-self and has taken some nourishment. It has been so that nothing would stay on his stomach. He talks some, crys some and prays some. He calls all of us and you and Bell too. We are glad to hear that you have made a good crop. You said you all might come to see us we hope you will and come back to stay. While you are in good shape might be the best time to come for next year might be a failure. While of course we can't tell. Times are much better here than they have ever been you can't hire any-body now to work on a farm for less than 15 or 20 dollars a month and day hands get from 1.00 to 3.00. Every body is in good shape so far as debts are concerned. People that always had to buy on a credit has the money now to pay cash. I sell from one thousand to three thousand dollar worth of goods each mo. and have made lots of money since I came to Lineville. Any body can make money here now that will try. I made 8 bales of cotton this year on a negro boy did for me and about 150 bu. Corn. I have bought me 2 places since I came here over last year and one this year. Land is some higher now than when you left here and will continue to higher on and on we are going to have one of the best continents at all since R.R. are being built. You wouldn't hardly know Lineville and Ashland now they dont look like the same places they were when you left. Oscar was here this evening and said they were all able to be up. Lola came up Friday and went home yesterday evening. Oscar is working on the R.R. and doesn't get to come except on Sunday. Uncle Jim and John has both been to see Marvin. Mama is almost wore out she doesn't sleep any nor eat much. We thought once she was going to get down but she did not. Leela and Will has been with us all they could. Leela is looking well now. We have had a big rain to day and it is still raining to night. They all say to tell you to be sure and come for we all want to see all of you it seems like now, that we all want to see you all worse not than ever before. People dont know how to appreciate each other in this world. I guess you are wearied of my long letter. If Marvin gets any worse I will write to at once. Will write again in a few days to let you know how he is. You all write often and dont fail to come to see us. Your Bro. J.W. Roberts We all send our love and best wishes. Staca and Lydia. sis tell May, Cortez and Laura to come.
