All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Timothy Horn funboytim@earthlink.net February 6, 2005, 2:05 pm Application For Pension APPLICATION FOR PENSION STATE OF ARKANSAS COUNTY OF MONGOMERY I, J M Horn do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, being a member of the 30th Alabama Col Shelly Regiment of Infantry from the State of Alabama or a member of the cre of the ship called (blank); that I was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service on or about the 15th day of January 1865 and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household good and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension, or wages for any services, the emoluments of a office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life (or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of wounds recieved in the service, being piles, paralysis, weakness from ages, and exasure(sic) or of age, accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God. (signature) J M Horn Subscribed and sworn to before me this 28th day of June 1909 A O Logan Justice of the Peace Additional Comments: This is the pension application for James Matt Horn, One of the 4 or 5 sons of Joshua Horn that fought in the Civil War. James moved from Horn's Valley Alabama to Arkansas in 1883 after revenuers got on his trail. Once he had wind of the revenuers coming, he auctioned everything he had and got on a train in Talladega and went to Arkansas. At that time they had to come from Montgomery and it was a 3 day ride to get into Horn's Valley so he had time to do this. Physician's Attestation EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN State of Arkansas County of Montgomery I J H McLean, a duly registerd and practicing physician in Montgomery County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with J M Horn of Caddo Gap Arkansas, who is a pension under the Statues of Arkansas. That at his request I have made an examination of physician(sic) condition and find: (State description and character of wound) NONE Physical Condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable To Paralysis Agitans, Rheumatism, Hemmoroids which (unreadable) applicant wholly diasabled for manual labor. His age is 71 years and that said disability is not the result of his own habits still persisted in IT IS NOT Extent of disability WHOLLY DISABLED AS RESULTS MENTIONED ABOVE.
