Weathers brought into our office a tattered piece of paper, a clipping from "The Montgomery Advertiser" of ancient date. There is a considerable interest attached to this article, and we shall reproduce it for the benefit and pleasure it may be to the descendants and relatives of the old soldiers and to the veterans yet living. This clipping was found in the Bible of the late Mrs. Lucy White shortly after her death in this city the first of June. On the roll appears the name of a son of Mrs. White, Henry C. White, who died from exposure during the war and for whom his mother deeply grieved for many years. This is the original muster roll of Company E, 17th Alabama Regiment, which was composed of volunteers from Roanoke and surrounding territory. It was organized Sept. 9, 1861 under the name of "The Dowdell Rangers" named in honor of the father of our Judge Dowdell, the former being the representative of this district in congress at that time. On the battlefield of Shiloh, in which this company bore a heroic part, Lieutenant B.F. Weathers was promoted to the rank of Captain. The names marked by a star are those who are still living, numbering 26. Wiley E. White, Captain Benjamin E. Reed, 1st Lieut. * Benjamin F. Weathers, 2d. Lieut. Jno. D. Robertson, 3d Lieut. Robert S.
