The Montgomery Advertiser January 22, 1878
The following named persons citizens of Clay County, were arraigned before 
Commissioner Hunter yesterday, charged with illicit distilling: W. J. Paterson, 
W. C. Demiron, John Greene, Andrew J. Owen, Thomas Pair, Silas J. Watts, Coffee 
Curry, Alex Caldwell, Robert Kirkley. They waived examination ana each gave bond 
in the sum of five hundred dollars to answer any charge that might be made by the 
United States District Court. The following from Randolph County, were disposed 
of in the same manner: John Heard, E. McCormack, Hyram Gibson, Alfred Milton, 
David Knight and John Burrow.
