Ashland Progress January 20, 1938
As a result of an affray in the Morris settlement about 8 miles South of Ashland 
on last Saturday night, one man by the name of Hudgins, is suffering from knife 
wounds, and two others, Gordon and Burnett Morris, are in the Ashland jail. After 
arresting the Morris brothers, it was learned that one of them, Burnett Morris, 
was an escaped convict from Georgia, having been convicted of murder in Heard 
County and sentenced for life. The Georgia authorities have been notified of the 
arrest. Gordon Morris is held charged with the cutting of Hudgins. Sheriff Mayo 
reports today that the wounds of Hudgins are not dangerous.
