The Montgomery Advertiser April 29, 1916
Deciding suddenly to withdraw an appeal he had carried to the Alabama Court of 
Appeals, Floyd Monroe, a white man, recently convicted in Clay County, 
surrendered to the warden at the State penitentiary, Wetumpka, Friday morning and 
began serving a sentence of seven years. The convict department was notified that 
he had given himself up. Monroe was convicted for first degree manslaughter. He 
appealed his case, and it would have been heard by the higher court this spring. 
He was hopeful for some time of securing executive clemency but falling; in his 
efforts, and ultimately determined to start serving his time.
