The child was sitting in front of a fire in his home. His mother, Mrs. Chester Foster, threw some wood chips from a box into the fire. In the box also was a shotgun shell. When the shell was accidentally placed in the fire it exploded and bits of shot punctured the pupils of both eyes of the child. Physicians at Garner hospital here said after an examination the child would be blind for life.
