Ashland Progress July 29, 1937
As a result of a gun battle between Howard and Frank Ballard vs. Perch Dunn, all 
colored, two of the boys, Howard and Perch, were arrested by Sheriff Mayo and 
Deputy Davis and placed in the Ashland jail, charged with the affray. The scene 
of the battle was on Wesobulga street with the Ballard boys on one side of the 
street and Perch Dunn on the other. The Ballards were using a shotgun and a 
rifle, while Dunn was using a pistol in the beginning of the battle, later using 
a shotgun. Dunn received quite a number of shot in the arm and side, while Howard 
Ballard was barely scratched with a bullet. Perch Dunn is now at liberty under a 
$300 bond. Frank Ballard has not been apprehended.

Additional Comments:
Perch Dunn & Howard Ballard was convicted and sent to prison.
