Saturday afternoon the husband of Mrs. A. Scott (Lula) Hassell died of injuries received in an automobile accident near the first of the new year. He had lingered between life and death for near three weeks before finally being called away. The widow was prostrated with grief with the loss of the husband but was fortunate in having the consolation of a mother, an ardent brother and several children, including one from Birmingham. The remains were carried to Providence, Clay County, where they were interred the flowers, songs and prayers of the loved ones and gently put to rest for the last time beneath the bosum of Clay County. Returning from the sad scene, the car carrying the mother, brother, son, went into a ditch and dropped 15 feet into a dry creek bed, killing the brother, and fatally injuring the other two. The widow, who had returned home ahead of the fatal automobile, began worrying about the safety of the others when they failed to arrive on time. Upon questioning, the news was told her, as best possible, that three had met with an accident, but the injuries were unknown. Little by little, she gathered the meaning, her brother was dead. The next day her son, and Tuesday morning her mother had passed quietly away. And Tuesday morning Mrs. Hassell lies broken, grief-stricken and almost to the point of hysterics, those close to her administering as much as possible, but with little success of making her burden any lighter. For in three days she has lost the earthly sight of a husband, mother, brother and son, and can only hope and know that she will meet them again someday in the veiled beyond, for at a little plot of ground that received the body of her husband Sunday, the body of her son was placed Tuesday morning. And at another place, in the church yard of the Mount Olive church, near Ashland, the mother's remains had been laid beside those of her sons who was received into the grave Monday.
