Our Mountain Home June 29, 1932
Last Friday, June 17, Jim J. Horne lived his 83rd birthday practically in good 
health, with the exception of feebleness inflicted by age. He is one of the 
oldest citizens of the Spring Hill community and the oldest Home here about. Jim 
Horne came to this community in 1894. Thus, during the 38 years he has lived 
here he has been a good citizen, a community builder, and a neighbor in Christ's 
way.
As probably would be expected he did not go to the battle fields during the 
Civil War. But he was left to the battle back home as he a member of the home 
guard. He said and repeated, he was for the privilege given him to live this 
long and he hoped to see his 84th birthday. It was a happy reunion, indeed, to 
those who gathered the following Sunday at the home of Harmon L. Home's in honor 
of his birthday. Numbers of the nearest relatives gathered for the day, and in 
the afternoon more and more came.
Many relatives and friends greeted each other for the first time in quite a 
while and some for the first time. To a great extent the past was relived. There 
were forty-five children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yet, many were 
absent, the evangelist, Edgar A. Patterson, being one of the absent 
grandchildren.
Only one of the living children was absent, Will, of Arkansas. Those present 
were Bose, Charlie, Harmon, Herbert and Chester. Two of his brothers were 
present, W. A. Horne and M.M. Horne, also his only sister, Mrs. G. W. Wynn.
