The Birmingham News December 24, 1901
News reaches us of a bold mall robbery which took place on a star route between 
Ashland and Goodwater last week, said the Talladega News Reporter. The mall 
carrier was held up by a negro, whose name we could not learn, at a secluded spot 
on the road, and the mall pouch taken. The approach of parties on the road 
frightened the robbery from completing his theft, and thus the alarm was given, 
and the robber caught and identified, and turned over by Sheriff Mayo to the 
United States authors ties at Selma.
