Edwardsvllle Standard June 29, 1883
We learn that a sad accident occurred on Wednesday last near Delta, in Clay 
County. A Miss Peoples went over to Mr. Jones's that day, and as she went in a 
five year old son at Mr. Jones' who had gone to a trunk to get some Tabacco, saw 
a pistol, that had been placed there by someone who had recently arrived from 
Texas, and pointing it towards Miss Peoples, saying he would shoot her, when the 
pistol fired, the ball struck her body and going nearly through it, when it 
lodged. She was alive at last account, but whether there is any hope of recovery 
we have not learned. Beware of the pistol, young man, whether it is loaded or 
not.
