The young rascal Keech of Memphis, who flooded the mails with his letters 
proposing to deliver a horse and buggy, upon payment of freight charges, 
alleged, etc. caught victims everywhere. Luckily the post office authorities 
caught on in time and most if not all, have been saved harmless. It is said that 
several thousand dollars were sent in by parties who received his letters. 
The Memphis News says: L. C. Mitchell, of Delta, Clay County, Ala., testified 
that he was beguiled into believing that he had suddenly fallen into a good 
thing by one of the luring letters. 
"What is the occasion of your presence in Memphis?" asked the district attorney. 
"This Is It," said the witness, laughing. 
Mr. Mitchell, who is an intelligent appearing farmer, said he firmly believed 
that he was going, to get a horse, and buggy for a small amount until the train 
which brought him to Memphis was nearing this city. On the. train he met an 
acquaintance from his own vicinity. They engaged in conversation. It developed 
that both were on a similar mission and that each had been informed that they 
were entitled to premium. No. 7 the horse and buggy. They immediately decided 
that something was wrong. 
"I didn't expect much to get a horse and buggy, but I thought it would, cost me 
more to send on the $22.60 asked than it would for me to come to Memphis and 
make a personal investigation." said the witness.
