It seems from our information that Mr. Smith felled a tree and made the same into boards that stood near the line between him and Russell. After he had made the boards, Russell went and moved them away, and appropriated them to his own use, without letting Smith know anything about it. On Saturday last, 12th inst., they met when they got into a dispute, which resulted in Russell shooting and killing Smith. After Russell had shot Smith he remarked, "I'm sorry, I shot you," and at the same time presented him a five-dollar bill, saying, "Take this, I will pay you for boards." Smith lived only a short while after he was shot.
