O. Peek's store in Randolph County. There had been a singing at New Harmony church during the day and Mitchell and Morris, with two or three other young men, were on their way home after the singing had broken up. It is reported that the fatal difficulty started in a play. It is said that Mitchell knocked off Morris' hat and that Morris got mad and cursed Mitchell, whereupon Mitchell stabbed Morris in the heart. Morris lived only about ten minutes after he was stabbed. Both young men were unmarried, each being about 25 years of age. Charley Morris was a brother of Buddy Morris who was killed in the same neighborhood a little more than a year ago.
