Ashland Progress April 16, 1915
Tom Brooks, colored, an occupant of the county jail held on a charge of burglary, 
made a sudden dash for liberty Tuesday afternoon, but his exit was of very brief 
duration. The janitor had opened the jail for the purpose of carrying in a valise 
of clothing for some of the occupants, when the prisoner suddenly ran past him, 
darted out and ran toward the woods just north of town. Although he got several 
yards the start some of the boys about town gave him a lively chase and he was 
overtaken about a half mile out and returned to jail.
