M. Shirey, whose barn, including a mule, burned early Sunday morning after a group of visitors attending the man in his illness had gone home. The family smokehouse and its contents; a $300 barn, a mule, a wagon, plow tools and about 100 bushels of corn were lost in the blaze, said J. D. Johnson of Talladega. Johnson found out about the fire Sunday afternoon when he and a daughter went to Pyriton to visit Shirey, his brother-in-law. Because of Shirey's illness, a group of friends and neighbors had "set up" with him until after midnight Saturday, Johnson said. The barn was burning when the Shirey family awoke Sunday, Johnson added. The Shirey family will "certainly appreciate" any help Talladegans can give them, the brother-in-law said.
