Zeke Treadwell, the moving spirit in the affair, has a 25-year sentence to the penitentiary hanging over him, but is awaiting the action of the supreme court in regard to his case. He succeeded in getting out of his ceil through a very small opening made by breaking a bar of iron where the sewer pipe entered. It is said that he also stripped himself and lathered his body with soap before being able to crawl through the opening. Sheriff Mayo and his deputies, with the aid of some negroes, intercepted him at an outhouse in the vicinity of his home and returned him to jail.
