Anniston Star October 24, 1954
Clay County Sheriff D. C. Little is continuing his investigation of an attack 
upon Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Stansell in their Union Community home last Tuesday 
night. Mr. and Mrs. Stansell, who operates the only store in the little center, 
locked their store Tuesday night and went to their home a short distance away. 
The couple heard a noise as they entered the home, but thinking it was only 
their son they were not alarmed until after they entered and could find no one. 
When Mr. Stansell crossed an open hallway in the middle of the house, an 
unidentified intruder knocked him to the floor. Mrs. Stansell was also struck 
and knocked down when she followed her husband. Mr. Stansell was brought to Clay 
County Hospital here and attendants used five stitches to close the wound on his 
face. Only Mr. Stansell's topcoat was missing from the home. No arrests have 
been made.
