Ashland Progress June 27, 1919
At an early hour Sunday night, while the inhabitants of the town were assembling 
for church, three negro prisoners, Dock Wood, Hardy Nunn and Frank Clemons, 
escaped from the county jail and have so far evaded re-capture. They are said to 
have prized an opening through a patched place in the cell by means of a piece of 
iron or steel broken from one of the cots in the usual manner in which such 
deliveries are made. They were all being held on felony charges. The three white, 
occupants of the jail remained.
