Lineville, A 23-year-old hardware store employe is being held on a charge of 
statutory rape of a 12-year-old girl. Sheriff D. C. Little said today. Sheriff 
Little said Charles Tillis was arrested Wednesday on a warrant sworn out by the 
girl's mother, me incident is supposed to have happened on Monday while the 
mother was away from home. Deputy Sam King, who made the arrest, said the child 
told her mother Tillis threatened to kill her if she told.

LINEVILLE. Ala., Dec. 30, Sheriff D. C. Little today said that a 23-year-old 
hardware store employe had been charged with carnal knowledge and rape of his 
12-year-old stepdaughter. The sheriff said the charges were placed against 
Charles Tillis, Lineville, by the girl's mother. Tillis was arrested by Deputy 
Sheriff Sam King after the warrant was issued. Deputy King said the girl told 
her mother that her stepfather threatened to kill her if she told anyone of the 
alleged assault. The mother works in a pants factory.
