The crop is considered short. Information has reached this place that a negro. Will Trammell was shot and killed at Pyriton, in this county, Sunday night, by James Worthy, white. Only meager details of the killing are obtainable. It is reported that the negro was under the influence of cocaine and attacked Worthy's son and wife, with a knife and absolutely refused to leave the house when ordered to do so, but made desperate attempts to murder Worthy's family, whereupon James Worthy struck him with an axe and then shot him with a pistol, killing him instantly. The whole matter will be investigated by the grand jury which meets December 9. The track of the Atlanta. Birmingham and Atlantic is now laid to Pyriton. and a train schedule will soon be put on.
